Collection: PlayStation

A Japanese PlayStation plays the Japanese PS1 library: the games that never left Japan, on the machine they were made for.

The worry, said first. A used PS1 is now 25 to 30 years old. People worry that the disc drive will stop reading and that the inside is full of old dust. There are also two facts many buyers only learn after the parcel arrives: a Japanese PlayStation does not play North American or European discs, and it runs on Japan's 100V power.

What we do about it. Every console we sell is opened and cleaned inside by hand, so old dust is not left sitting on the boards. The electrical contacts are cleaned with ethanol to remove oxidation, so the connections are clean when you plug it in. Then it is tested with a real game, checking picture, sound and controller, and switched on once more just before we seal the box. Every console comes with 30 days of support after it reaches you.

From a buyer. “Great, as described, good quality.” (eBay buyer of a PocketStation SCPH-4000, July 2026)

How to choose. If you want to play Japanese discs, start with a console. If you already have one, look at the games and controllers (a light gun such as the GunCon only works on an old CRT TV). If you collect, our Japanese strategy guides start at $10. They are written in Japanese.

Said plainly. Everything on this shelf is used. Each listing says what marks it has and what is not included, so you know before you buy, not after it arrives.
