If the history of 90s video games were a single shōnen manga, then I believe the protagonist would undoubtedly be this Super Famicom.

Following in the footsteps of its great father, the Famicom, it met its rival, the cool and slightly rebellious Sega Mega Drive. At first, he was rumored to be a little lacking in performance. But this protagonist was not alone. He had the strongest "companions" in the galaxy.

First, his own overwhelming "strength," inherited from his home, Nintendo. The kindness to be enjoyed by anyone, called Super Mario World. The courage to face any hardship, called The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. The speed to outrun anyone, called F-ZERO.

And then, the "unique companions" who gathered around him, saying, "To you, we can entrust the future." The two titans who created the very culture of Japanese RPGs, Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy. In my father's shop, too, this gray partner was always at the center of a circle of kids. Its rounded, somehow gentle design seemed to be saying, "Come on, gather around me and let's adventure together."
