The Story
Doubutsu no Mori e+

This is the last and most complete GameCube Animal Crossing, released in Japan on 27 June 2003 and never localised — it depended on the e-Reader, so it could not travel. In 2003 most Japanese homes still had no internet. What this disc offered instead was a village that carried on living whether you visited or not: K.K. Slider playing live at eight o'clock every Saturday evening, Tom Nook's tent growing into a department store because of what you had been buying, gyroids that only appeared in the ground after rain. Players wrote letters on real paper to friends who played the same game. It anticipated everything social media became, years early, using nothing but a memory card.
