THE STORY BEHIND THE CARTRIDGE

This is the game built to breathe life back into unsold arcade machines — and the job went to a newcomer who had never designed a single game before: Shigeru Miyamoto. President Yamauchi, and Gunpei Yokoi who supervised him, saw something in him that felt different from everyone else. When a planned Popeye license fell through, that very constraint forced a new cast into being, and Mario stepped onto a screen for the first time.

“What draws me in most is the arguments that wouldn’t come together between Yokoi and Miyamoto. Yet here it produced something good — perhaps because it was a debate, not a quarrel. Both men aimed only at the same target, how do we make this fun?, never at their own pride. If you must argue, aim at the same target — then even if you lose, something still remains.”

SHIPPING

Ships from Japan.
Processing time: 1-3 business days after payment.

Carriers do not operate on weekends or Japanese public holidays. Orders placed on those days will ship from the next available business day.

Import duties and taxes are not included and are the buyer's responsibility.

Depending on your country's customs regulations, additional import fees or brokerage charges may be collected at delivery. Please confirm these costs before purchasing.

Condition
Fully tested and confirmed to be working properly.

📷 Please note: the photos are representative samples. As these are pre-owned vintage items, the exact unit you receive may vary slightly in cosmetic condition but will be in comparable, tested condition.

What You Will Actually Pay

Nothing appears later that is not listed here.

  • The item — $7.00. That is the price on this page.
  • Shipping from Japan — $10.50 to most countries, plus $3 for each additional game, accessory, book or CD. Ordered together with a console, it ships free once the order reaches $100; games and accessories ordered on their own are charged shipping, whatever the total. One exception. Shipping to Brazil, Chile, Argentina and Peru is $15.00, plus $3 for each additional item, on every order, because shipping to South America costs far more. The exact figure for your address appears at checkout, before you pay.
  • Import duties and taxes. Not included in the price and not collected at checkout — for every country, including the United States. Your country’s customs decides the amount, and the carrier will ask you to pay it before or at delivery. The carrier may also charge its own fee for handling customs. Rules differ by country and can change, so we can’t tell you the exact amount in advance. If a carrier ever presents a charge that looks wrong, send us the paperwork and we will look into it with you.

It leaves Japan within 1–3 business days of your payment, with a tracking number sent to you by email.

If it arrives damaged in transit, does not work, or is not as described, email us within 30 days of delivery with photos of the item and its packaging — it is covered by our 30-day warranty, and we pay the return shipping. If you simply change your mind, you can return it within 30 days of delivery; the return shipping is paid by you. We do not send return labels: we email you our return address and instructions.
