In Japan, SEGA's commercials back then were always a little strange. And incredibly cool. An actor in a judo uniform just kept shouting "SEGA SATURN, SHIRO! (White!)" while throwing people who weren't playing... Looking back, it was crazy, but SEGA's soul was definitely in those commercials.
What kind of commercials did they have in your country or region? I'm sure there was a unique "SEGA-ness" to them in each place.
The SEGA Saturn, created by such a slightly eccentric company, advanced silently on its own path, like a solitary samurai. Their goal wasn't the trendy polygons. It was the ultimate peak of "2D expression" through pixel art.
As a result, this black (or white) console gave birth to numerous artistic 2D games that moved more beautifully and smoothly than anything else. The flawless craftsmanship shown in arcade ports of fighting and shooting games, in particular, is still legendary.
It was an all-too-SEGA-like, youthful, and supremely cool way of life—pursuing only what you believed in, no matter what others said. (Well, that made the internal structure a bit complex, and maintenance a little tough, but that's part of its charm.)
It might have lost out to its rival in terms of flashy visuals. But those who knew the real "sharpness" all bowed down before this Saturn.
