What We Did Before This Ships
Every console we sell is opened up and serviced by hand.
We don't just confirm it powers on — we look inside.
This unit was fully disassembled and cleaned internally; dust was removed from all components.
All boards and electrical contacts were cleaned with ethanol and a fast-drying, residue-free electronics cleaner to remove oxidation and residue.
Moving mechanical parts were lubricated with a light application of silicone grease for smooth, quiet operation. (We do not apply grease to electrical contacts — they are cleaned only.)
Electrolytic capacitors are replaced only when there is visible corrosion or leakage — nothing more, nothing less. For console families known for capacitor failure, a full recap is performed as standard.
If a console cannot be properly restored, we do not sell it.
After reassembly, the unit is tested with an actual game: video, sound, and controller input are all confirmed.
Before we seal the box, we power the console on one more time and confirm it is still working.
Every console includes 30 days of support after it reaches you.
A note on power: this console uses Japan's 100V standard. Buyers in North America (120V) are advised to use a step-down transformer or a multi-voltage power supply; buyers in Europe (230V) will require a step-down transformer to use an original 100V adapter safely.
In your home:
TV (RF switch): the RF switch sends the picture over an analog channel, so it shows on TVs that can still receive analog (RF) broadcasts — older CRT sets, and flat-screen TVs that still have an analog tuner. It will not show on TVs in PAL countries such as the UK, Europe or Australia.
US or Canada (120V) — power: please don't plug this Japanese 100V equipment straight into the wall. Run it through a 120V→100V step-down transformer (not included).
UK, Europe or Australia (230–240V) — power: plugging it straight into the wall will burn it out. Use a 230V→100V step-down transformer (not included).
A note on region: This is a Japanese Famicom. It accepts Famicom cartridges, which use a different 60-pin connector than the 72-pin NES cartridges sold in North America and Europe — they are not physically interchangeable without an adapter.
If anything here isn't covered, just ask — questions are always welcome.
🎮 Add a game — it travels in the same box as your console.
We’re shipping your Famicom anyway, so any game you add rides along in the same box. To Brazil, Chile, Argentina and Peru, the first game you add costs nothing extra to ship, and each one after it adds $3. Everywhere else, shipping is free once your order reaches $100. 📖 Curious about the Famicom? I wrote its whole story — how it was born and what made it special — in our Museum. Read the story → — The shopkeeper, Japan 🇯🇵
🎮 Prefer it ready to play, right out of the box? We also hand-pack tested Famicom sets — a cleaned console, classic games and every cable you need, together at a friendlier price than buying it piece by piece. See the ready-to-play Famicom bundles → — The shopkeeper, Japan 🇯🇵
What You Will Actually Pay
Nothing appears later that is not listed here.
The item — $74.99. That is the price on this page.
Shipping from Japan — $19.00 to most countries, or nothing at all once your order reaches $100 — this console counts toward it, and games you add do too. One exception. Shipping to Brazil, Chile, Argentina and Peru is $49.99 on every order, because shipping to South America costs far more. The exact figure for your address appears at checkout, before you pay.
Import duties and taxes. Not included in the price and not collected at checkout — for every country, including the United States. Your country’s customs decides the amount, and the carrier will ask you to pay it before or at delivery. The carrier may also charge its own fee for handling customs. Rules differ by country and can change, so we can’t tell you the exact amount in advance. If a carrier ever presents a charge that looks wrong, send us the paperwork and we will look into it with you.
We have one of these. It is the unit in the photographs above — not a stock image, and not one of several.
It leaves Japan within 1–3 business days of your payment, with a tracking number sent to you by email.
If it arrives damaged in transit, does not work, or is not as described, email us within 30 days of delivery with photos of the item and its packaging — it is covered by our 30-day warranty, and we pay the return shipping. If you simply change your mind, you can return it within 30 days of delivery; the return shipping is paid by you. We do not send return labels: we email you our return address and instructions.
