The Story

Pebble Beach no Hatou

T&E Soft are remembered for Hydlide, one of the first real-time action RPGs. What they actually did for a decade was golf. The Pebble Beach series began on the Super Famicom in 1992, moved to the Mega Drive in 1993, and reached the 3DO in March 1994 — and this is the version where the CD finally paid off: sharper graphics, a redesigned swing gauge, video commentary before each hole, and advice recorded with the professional Craig Stadler, who had won the Masters in 1982. One studio, one course, one small mechanism refined year after year until it was right. That is a whole way of working, and it is very Japanese.
