Before the round buttons, before global fame — there was this. The original Nintendo Famicom (HVC-001), first released in 1983, featuring the rare early “square button” controllers and black cartridge slot — a short-run variant cherished by collectors today.
Used. Tested and fully working. Region: NTSC-J (Japan). The controller is the early “square button” type, and the cartridge slot is black. This early square-button controller and black cartridge slot combination was produced only for a short time and is highly prized by collectors.
The console has small scuffs and minor scratches. Both controllers have fine scuffs and small scratches. Includes the original AC adapter, RF switch, and connection attachment. Instruction manual is not included.
The Styrofoam inner tray has some localized scuffs and damage. The outer cardboard box shows wear, including scuffs, scratches, corner wear, and creases.

What We Did Before This Ships

We don't just confirm it powers on — we look inside.
This unit was fully disassembled and cleaned internally; dust was removed from all components.
All boards and electrical contacts were cleaned with ethanol and a fast-drying, residue-free electronics cleaner to remove oxidation and residue.
Moving mechanical parts were lubricated with a light application of silicone grease for smooth, quiet operation. (We do not apply grease to electrical contacts — they are cleaned only.)
Electrolytic capacitors are replaced only when there is visible corrosion or leakage — nothing more, nothing less. For console families known for capacitor failure, a full recap is performed as standard.
If a console cannot be properly restored, we do not sell it.
After reassembly, the unit is tested with an actual game: video, sound, and controller input are all confirmed.
Before we seal the box, we power the console on one more time and confirm it is still working.

A note on power: this console uses Japan's 100V standard. Buyers in North America (120V) are advised to use a step-down transformer or a multi-voltage power supply; buyers in Europe (230V) will require a step-down transformer to use an original 100V adapter safely.
A note on region: This is a Japanese Famicom. It accepts Famicom cartridges, which use a different 60-pin connector than the 72-pin NES cartridges sold in North America and Europe — they are not physically interchangeable without an adapter.
